What does this mean to be curious and provacative in coaching?
Curious, may be familiar to most of us in a somewhat general way, we may feel curious, and seek out knowledge or infomation about something. Yet when used as a skill in coaching the something becomes the client, the clients understanding of something, the clients interests, or knowledge about things.
Curiosity in coaching becomes about the client and the clients view of the world. We come to the session with curiosity about the client and what is on their mind, in their mind, and available to them from where they are, and have experienced life.
Provocative questions in a coaching conversation serves to provoke a client, by stimulating, irratating, or exciting them to look beyond what may in fact be present and available in this moment toward something much larger.
Being provocative in coaching, serves to open up a clients perspective and concepts of themselves and the world around them. Thus opening up the world of possibilities and opportunity for the client! Removing the smallness, the limits one may have been functioning from is what a provocative coaching conversation can do!
